Über die Veranstaltung

What we mean by trauma today is subject to change. The focus is no longer on the triggering event itself, but on the individual experience and not least its consequences. Pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum are life events that go hand in hand with a series of physical and psychological changes. The latest studies show that the woman's experience in this phase can be traced back to individual and continuous support, as well as to her conscious and self-determined experience, especially in interpersonal interactions. The feeling of security depends on certain signals from the environment and our relationships.

With my clients, I very often not only observe numerous previous stresses such as operations or hospital stays, which have a strong influence on the course of the birth, but also a less flexible interaction with the specialist staff in terms of their wishes, ideas and, last but not least, important decisions. Many women with pre-existing conditions try to avoid potential stressors and triggers during pregnancy and childbirth instead of developing alternative strategies for dealing with them. This often results in constriction and tension in certain situations.

As a doula/birth attendant with a focus on trauma, I will address the effects of trauma on pregnant women and their prevalence in my presentation. To understand how stressful events can affect pregnancy, labor and delivery, I will use a few cases to give you an idea.

Some body-oriented strategies from trauma-sensitive birth preparation are explained, as well as their importance for the interaction between the client and the obstetric staff. Some other possibilities of interdisciplinary cooperation are shown.

Target group:

Doctors, psychologists, psychotherapists, non-medical practitioners, obstetricians and specialized nurses as well as advisory professional groups such as social and curative teachers, pastors, life coaches, lactation consultants, maternal nurses, course instructors for childbirth preparation, postnatal rehabilitation and hypnobirthing, educators and refugee workers.
